D-Structure San Francisco is proud to unveil our newest exhibition which features the works and installation by Joshua Laywer. Join us on March 5th at 8pm for the opening of Fluffy Water. Fluffy water is a simple and odd way of describing a cloud. So the reason I called the show fluffy water is to explain what I’m trying to do with my paintings in a subtle way. A lot of times I am trying to explain something from different points of view or trying to hit a problem from angels you would never expect. So fluffy waters is a small example of trying to explain something as simple as a cloud in a new and fresh way. FREE DRINKS

About the artist Joshua Laywer: Joshua lawyer works on found wood with a mix of colored led, acrylic as well as house paint and any other kind of paint he can get his hands on. His intentions with found wood are to take something that is garbage to most and make it a beautiful painting. In a way every painting is in its self a redemption story. “I want to paint life with a bit of fairytale to the painting. I want the shapes of their bodies to be a part of the story as much as the expression on their faces, I want the backgrounds of the painting to be a tool to highlight the person. I want to question were the people are in life and how they got there. to see god in them see their pain see love in them and their broken hearts. I want there to be humor in the paintings as well as sorrow. I want them to be complicated and chaotic. Want the viewer to see a little part of them self in the painting or maybe a girl they use to know, a girl from a day were life took them to a place they wish they could go back to. “

Bio of featured artist Michael Dabo Lopez: The work of Michael “Dabo” Lopez wants to tell you a story, but it doesn’t want you to hear it. Instead, it wants you to feel it. And so this story can’t be told with mere words or slick images; what it needs is to be told with soul. Being an artist for Michael “Dabo” Lopez is about birth and creation. His art is a process of bringing his inner mental and emotional landscapes into the world of sight and seeing. For him this movement is a necessary part of his reality, giving a catharsis and release from what is otherwise a purely internal struggle. But he hopes that in the physical place of his art others can experience a transcendent moment too; that others can share if only for a moment in the experience of his vision as well. Making art for him is like standing in front of a mirror. His work is a reflection of his self, his thoughts, and his imagination; which when turned around confronts us with abstractions and diverse meanings. Michael “Dabo” Lopez feels that his role as an artist is to work out his reflection in that mirror, and then to rotate it and place it in front of you.

DSSF is proud to host the "I Heart Tour" SF.
$10//Open Bar//18+
Join us January 22nd for Live performances and an open bar to support "I Heart Inc" and their charitable campaign "Bombshell Alliance" to benefit Services for Battered Women and their Children. Featured Performances from, Brown Shoe, Arrica Rose, Correatown, Manda Mosher. What is the Bombshell Alliance? The Bombshell Alliance, is a 1940’s style pin-up calendar and accompanying compilation CD featuring Los Angeles based female musicians. All profits from the sale of the calendar are donated to Sojourn Services for Battered Women and their Children. Additionally, I HEART used profits earned from the calendar’s launch party to create a one-year scholarship for a young student to attend The Silverlake Conservatory of Music. The sold-out launch party was held at The Hotel Café in Hollywood, CA, on the evening of November 15 2007. About I Heart Inc I HEART Inc is an incorporated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization begun by LA indie musicians Arrica Rose, Abby Kincaid, and Laura Martin. While touring in the southwest, the girls were inspired by a fellow female musician named Eva Blaylock, who was creatively using her talents and connections to raise money for charitable organizations in her hometown, Albuquerque, NM. Excited about the possibility of re-creating Eva's success in Los Angeles, the girls began brainstorming ideas for what would become I HEART. The first I HEART project would be The Bombshell Alliance 1940's pin-up girl calendar and compilation.
I HEART Inc is currently run by Arrica Rose who has expanded upon the original project, coordinating events not only in Los Angeles but also in NYC and Austin @ SXSW 2009.
The motto is simple: do what you can, with where you are and what you’ve got. This philosophy enables independent artists to collectively leverage their talents by utilizing creative projects to contribute now as opposed to later. In regards to long-term plans, I HEART hopes to expand nationally as well as internationally, establishing chapters around the world and uniting artists across the globe who have a desire to use their art in positive ways to effect change.
I HEART Inc has been fortunate to enlist an amazing team of sponsors and supporters including Willie Nelson, Crosby Stills and Nash, Iron & Wine/Sub Pop Records, Rachel Maddow, Fran Drescher, Neko Case, The Weepies, Jesca Hoop, Smart Water, Martin Guitars, Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios, Radio Hill Recorders, Isgoodradio, Hunnypot, Lurssen Mastering, GoodWin Entertainment, LA Weekly, Amoeba Records, Hotel Cafe and many more…

Punk Drunkers Invades D-Structure SF In 1998 Punk Drunkers was founded in Sendagaya, Tokyo. For the past ten years they have kept to their philosophies. Never becoming stagnate and falling behind, and always embracing originality. Their brand concept mixes Japanese culture with western influences, which always creates a unique approach and original designs. It's no wonder Punk Drunkers has been successful for the past ten years they've been around. Punk Drunkers and D-Srtructure began to collaborate several months ago when DSSF's Takeshi Baba believed the two brands had a lot in common. With a decade in the industry, Punk Drunkers has always been very exclusive with the brands and stores they collaborate with. Thats why D-Structure is the only store in San Francisco to carry Punk Drunkers, let alone, one of the few American brands to collaborate with them. With a loyal and large fan base in Japan, Drunk Punkards will finally make their San Francisco Debut December 18th at D-Structure. Here are some sneak peek photos of the designs that are invading D-Structure.

Come Join us December 4th at 7pm for the opening night of Matt Tuteur. D-Structure will be hosting a night of art, live music, and free drinks (Open Bar). Sincere w/ Nima and "Chosen Few" will be performing live sets later in the evening. Matt Tuteur Matt Tuteur is a photographer and grafiti artist from Chicago who has been exhibited in several galleries, and in 2007 was named #2 up and coming artist by Newcity Magazine (a local Chicago city publication, kinda like San Francisco Bay Area Guardian). As of late Tuteur has been doing a lot of documentation of Chicago's decaying industrial communities and housing projects. He does some amazing work, all with natural light and found items in the locations he shoots. Chicago used to have some of the roughest projects in the country, but they're now all being torn down. In addition to that, the industrial heart of the south side has been in decay for some time as well, along with the community buildings that made up those neighborhoods like old hospitals, churches, malls, etc. He keeps alot of his work offline to prevent theft, but you'll be able to see his works live December 4th at D-Structure SF
Chosen Few The name, "Chosen Few", upon first glance can conjour sentiments of elitism and seperatism. Nothing, however could be further from the truth. The meaning of the name and the overall mission behind the group is to encourage listeners to empower themselves by realizing that they themselves had the power to choose what music they want to listen to, and not just take whatever the powers that be threw at them to ingest; to realize that they are indeed capable of applying these principles to the rest of their lives as well, i.e. food, thought, spirituality, to carve their own paths and seperate themselves from the flock....the few amongst the many. The power of choice lies in all of us. Choice is something that the 3 men (Cold Showda, Unjust, and Charles Cooper) were very familiar with having to seek out, growing up in Ohio, a place that is still today very rooted in old world philosophy and customs, and that does not offer much local support or awareness for art and music that does not cater to the homogenized mainstream standard. However, like local musical pioneers before them Bootsy Collins, Ohio Players, Roger Trautman, the Isley Brothers and more, the three men were able to defy these restraints and create a movement for themselves collaborating with regional talent like Hi-Tek, Dj Kweli and Slum Village. Alas, they saw the limitations of a small market, and in 2002 embarked on the mission westward, landing in the bay area, a region well known for fostering dynamic creative movements and well as those for socia lchange. Cold Showda and Charles Cooper performed together as Greans, a group that took the bay area by storm, performing with the likes of DJ Hi-Tek, Mos Def, Common, Alkoholics, Hieroglyphics, Pharcyde, Grandmaster Flash, Slum VIllage, Bootcamp, and more. Unjust began focusing on his career in graphic arts and became the creative director for ABB Records. He has since worked with Hieroglyphics, Dilated Peoples, Little Brother, Pastor Troy, Hi-Tek, Strong Arm Steady, Planet Asia, Tek9, J. Dilla, A.G., O.C., Nappy Roots, Dizzee Rascal, The Black Panthers, and more . In 2008 After numerous group dynamics and solo ventures were achieved, the 3 found themsleves back in Oakland and began to feel an energy build that was a direct reaction of the state of their beloved artform. In the midst of hip-hop movements such as the south's crunk scene and the more local hyphy scene in the bay area, they began to notice that there was a very limted emotional range in hip-hop music that was available for people to find. The social pro-activity, the urgency, and rebelliousness that made hip-hop the cultural revolution that it is was becoming less and less visible. So they set out to forge together and create a sound that was rich in emotion, meaningful, and impactful as well as being fun, and vivacious. Thus producing the "New World Symphony" album, with Unjust's soul and pychadelic rock laden beats, Cold Showda's relentlessly agressive lyrics, and Charles "Chop" Cooper's masterful saxaphone playing and lyricism. Making guest appearances on the album are Del The Funky Homosapien, Pep Love, Rakaa Iriscience, Phat Kat, DJ Babu, Tajai, Opio, Piakahn, Word4Word and more. All 3 work in pro-scoial capacities during time off from touring; Unjust working with at-risk-youth, Cold Showda as a mental health counselor, and Charles Cooper as a coach and teacher. "Being that we all are involved in education and pro-social work we value certian ideals", says Charles Cooper. "Integrity, unity, work ethic, being genuine, and innovative, and valuing the importance of personal relationships. We wanted to make sure those values shined through on this album, for the listener to enjoy." The logo created by unjust serves to symbolize these core values. "I wanted it to bring about a feeling of connectedness...", he said. "The C and the F flow into each other, and it all flows back to you. With the logo and the name, we are trying to encourage people to stand up, be your own individual and BE one of the chosen few. Lead your own charge, without scoietal restrictions." While the music on the album is very serious with that sense of urgency, it will also keep your head bobbing, your mind working, and your body moving. Nima Fadavi Nima Fadavi heads the class of new generation Bay Area producers. Exemplifying a blue collared work ethic, he has recently landed production on projects with Andre Nickatina, The Grouch, Pep Love, Del the Funky Homosapien, and Sunspot Jonz. Renowned for his relentless promotion and versatile production style, Nima Fadavi has been creating a frantic buzz positioning himself as a regular on the West Coast live performance circut. Juggling several projects at a time including his untitled solo debut album, Nima Fadavi has accumulated an impressive array of original production. www.nimafadavibeats.com
Sincere Of Italian Samoan decent, Sincere grew up in the streets of infamous Watsonville California, home of Martenillies apple cider, strawberries, low riders and severe gang violence. Showcasing a versatile flow with poetic lyricism he posses the unique ability to evoke raw emotion. Powered by one of the deepest voices in the game Sincere has successfully completed a mixtape with DJ Vlad the Butcher, as well as an all original production self titled, solo project. Seamlessly blending artist responsibilities and business savvy Sincere decided to take control of his career and co-founded the Ineffable Music Group. His latest release, comes as a highly anticipated collaboration album with producer Nima Fadavi entitled "The Calm Before the Storm".
