DSSF Presents Strangely Intertwined, Works and Installations by Colin Maisonpierre
The Theme "Strangely Intertwined" is drawn from trees and people.
"I have always been visually fixated on both. Trees seem to have endless symbolism flowing through their appendages. It can be anything from blossoming creativity to suppressing roots. I find that many human emotions, feelings, actions, or motives can be found within these branches. This also ties into the relationship between humans and nature. “Strangely Intertwined” is an exploration of these ideas. People and plants have a colorful history, and this is my interpretation. I hope you leave with your own interpretation."
More about Colin Maisonpierre I am a true believer that every person strives for some kind of creative outlet. This can be anything from drawing, working on a car, and everything in between. An escape from the norm that forces us to think outside of our daily grind walls.
My creative outlet happens to be drawing / painting. My imagination is full of surprises, even for me. The imagination is a tool that seems to be lost as we get older. The monotony of our lives strips us of the thinking we used to have.
I want people to use their imagination while viewing my work. There are no wrong answers when analyzing one of my drawings. I hope that you can take away something that means something to you. And most importantly, enjoy yourself.

DSSF and Trickster events invite you to the opening exhibition of works by artist Stephanie Mufson.
About the Show: "SHIFTERS" Through a narrative sequence of oil paintings and installation pieces, Stephanie explores the different ways people can create a shift in their lives- through shifting their sense of identity, image, surroundings and perspective- and the potential for what lays on the other side of that shift. The work in this show is about individual empowerment, as well as a look at the global shift we are all experiencing at this moment in history.
About Stephanie Mufson Stephanie Mufson was born in Manhattan, NY in the last weeks of 1979, and raised in the suburbs in Connecticut. She recognized early on in life the two things that made her happiest; creativity and adventure, and has spent her life passionately pursuing a life made up of those experiences.

In 2004 Stephanie moved to San Francisco to continue the exciting journey of life as an artist.

"Birds of a Feather" exhibit, works and installations by Milan Evje. "Birds of a Feather" is an exhibit that essentially depicts women as birds, contrasting the various elements of the female condition in modern urban society, such as internal and external struggle within a patriarchal framework of feminine identity, sexuality, insecurity, strength, and independence. When referencing the female condition... it is implying woman as a whole; in her best and worst. Women, very similar to birds, are motherly, shy, ecstatic, hysterical, sullen, attention-hungry, and elusive. This exhibit explores the parallels between the female condition and the behavior of birds. That is, the opportunity to be free and the fear of remaining in a cage or hunted: used, misguided and in majority of cases the excuse of a jaded history to birth a self-sabotaged future. We fear the entrapment but it is the fear which entraps us.
About the artist: I was born in Northern California and I currently reside in San Francisco. During my childhood I was surrounded by music, dance, and art. My first solo show was at the age of seventeen in Santa Rosa, Ca. This show turned out to be a great success and encouraged me to show my work further to the public. I work mostly with acrylic on canvas and wood. During the past year I have been exploring different mediums. I draw most of my inspiration from nature, love, sexuality, and experience. I have been painting for five years now, and in 2010 I plan on showing my work to the rest of the world. Working from a studio in San Francisco’s Mission district I bring viewers a different approach to the female delivery. I describe women at their highest, yet vulnerable, hungry, and collected state.

D-Structure San Francisco is proud to unveil our newest exhibition which features the works and installation by Joshua Laywer. Join us on March 5th at 8pm for the opening of Fluffy Water. Fluffy water is a simple and odd way of describing a cloud. So the reason I called the show fluffy water is to explain what I’m trying to do with my paintings in a subtle way. A lot of times I am trying to explain something from different points of view or trying to hit a problem from angels you would never expect. So fluffy waters is a small example of trying to explain something as simple as a cloud in a new and fresh way. FREE DRINKS

We look forward to seeing you there!
About the artist Joshua Laywer: Joshua lawyer works on found wood with a mix of colored led, acrylic as well as house paint and any other kind of paint he can get his hands on. His intentions with found wood are to take something that is garbage to most and make it a beautiful painting. In a way every painting is in its self a redemption story. “I want to paint life with a bit of fairytale to the painting. I want the shapes of their bodies to be a part of the story as much as the expression on their faces, I want the backgrounds of the painting to be a tool to highlight the person. I want to question were the people are in life and how they got there. to see god in them see their pain see love in them and their broken hearts. I want there to be humor in the paintings as well as sorrow. I want them to be complicated and chaotic. Want the viewer to see a little part of them self in the painting or maybe a girl they use to know, a girl from a day were life took them to a place they wish they could go back to. “

We look forward to seeing you there!
Bio of featured artist Michael Dabo Lopez: The work of Michael “Dabo” Lopez wants to tell you a story, but it doesn’t want you to hear it. Instead, it wants you to feel it. And so this story can’t be told with mere words or slick images; what it needs is to be told with soul. Being an artist for Michael “Dabo” Lopez is about birth and creation. His art is a process of bringing his inner mental and emotional landscapes into the world of sight and seeing. For him this movement is a necessary part of his reality, giving a catharsis and release from what is otherwise a purely internal struggle. But he hopes that in the physical place of his art others can experience a transcendent moment too; that others can share if only for a moment in the experience of his vision as well. Making art for him is like standing in front of a mirror. His work is a reflection of his self, his thoughts, and his imagination; which when turned around confronts us with abstractions and diverse meanings. Michael “Dabo” Lopez feels that his role as an artist is to work out his reflection in that mirror, and then to rotate it and place it in front of you.

Join us January 22nd for Live performances and an open bar to support "I Heart Inc" and their charitable campaign "Bombshell Alliance" to benefit Services for Battered Women and their Children. Featured Performances from, Brown Shoe, Arrica Rose, Correatown, Manda Mosher. What is the Bombshell Alliance? The Bombshell Alliance, is a 1940’s style pin-up calendar and accompanying compilation CD featuring Los Angeles based female musicians. All profits from the sale of the calendar are donated to Sojourn Services for Battered Women and their Children. Additionally, I HEART used profits earned from the calendar’s launch party to create a one-year scholarship for a young student to attend The Silverlake Conservatory of Music. The sold-out launch party was held at The Hotel Café in Hollywood, CA, on the evening of November 15 2007. About I Heart Inc I HEART Inc is an incorporated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization begun by LA indie musicians Arrica Rose, Abby Kincaid, and Laura Martin. While touring in the southwest, the girls were inspired by a fellow female musician named Eva Blaylock, who was creatively using her talents and connections to raise money for charitable organizations in her hometown, Albuquerque, NM. Excited about the possibility of re-creating Eva's success in Los Angeles, the girls began brainstorming ideas for what would become I HEART. The first I HEART project would be The Bombshell Alliance 1940's pin-up girl calendar and compilation.
I HEART Inc is currently run by Arrica Rose who has expanded upon the original project, coordinating events not only in Los Angeles but also in NYC and Austin @ SXSW 2009.
The motto is simple: do what you can, with where you are and what you’ve got. This philosophy enables independent artists to collectively leverage their talents by utilizing creative projects to contribute now as opposed to later. In regards to long-term plans, I HEART hopes to expand nationally as well as internationally, establishing chapters around the world and uniting artists across the globe who have a desire to use their art in positive ways to effect change.
I HEART Inc has been fortunate to enlist an amazing team of sponsors and supporters including Willie Nelson, Crosby Stills and Nash, Iron & Wine/Sub Pop Records, Rachel Maddow, Fran Drescher, Neko Case, The Weepies, Jesca Hoop, Smart Water, Martin Guitars, Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios, Radio Hill Recorders, Isgoodradio, Hunnypot, Lurssen Mastering, GoodWin Entertainment, LA Weekly, Amoeba Records, Hotel Cafe and many more…
